Project Description

This project aims to transform statues from static monuments into dynamic educational tools that promote shared values, cultural understanding, and community identity. By focusing on statues as carriers of historical memory—whether commemorating national figures, cultural heroes, or pivotal events—the project counters growing societal individualism and instead highlights collective heritage. Examples such as the statue of King Gustav II Adolf in Gothenburg or ancient Greek philosophers illustrate how monuments can help students explore local, national, and European history while fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Through an innovative pedagogical approach, participating schools will research, script, and narrate the life stories of selected statues, bringing them to life through realistic animation videos. These animated narratives will be integrated into a multilingual smartphone application that uses geolocation to activate the statue’s story when users approach it. By blending ICT, storytelling, and cultural heritage, the project offers an engaging and accessible way for students, educators, local communities, and visitors to experience history “first hand,” making learning more motivating, interactive, and meaningful.

Objectives

The main goals of the project are:
– To develop technical skills such as 3D modeling, and application development. The students – and teachers- will be
familiarized with 3D objects, not only as users but also as content creators. Students and teachers will be taught how to
develop material with easy-to-use equipment and software, to create and transform objects from real life to 3D. An added
value is that this way, we hope to inspire students who might not otherwise consider a future career within this line of work.
– To create and provide teachers and educators with new and inspirational tools to use in their teaching and also as part of a
pedagogical plan for inclusion of students facing different challenges or special needs.
– To increase the knowledge of history of the partner countries as well as the common European cultural heritage and use it
as the basis for teaching. – through the use of the material created within the partnership.
– To promote creativity and critical thinking. Students will be required to think outside the box and come up with creative
solutions for the implementation of the project outputs. Moreover, the participation in this project will provide students with
the opportunity to create useful ”real-world” applications and add a ”real” purpose to their learning.
– To encourage collaboration and teamwork. The project requires students to work in teams. It will encourage them to
develop social-, communication-, language- and collaboration skills, all important for their employability and professional life
after school.

Main Results

Concrete project outputs:
– A Cultural Platform that will include a selection of statues from all partner countries. These will be presented as 3D objects,
accessible from mobile devices and laptops. Each statue will be accompanied by a detailed historical background and a
narration where the person “tells” his/her story. All the information will be available in all partner languages and in English.
– An Educational Platform that will include lesson plans, worksheets, and examples to be used with the material produced by
the project and stored on the cultural platform. The Educational Platform will be available in all partner languages and in
English.
– A Training Platform to be used by teachers who want to implement the project’s methodology and use the presented
material or create their own material. The Training Platform will be available in all partner languages and in English.
