My name is Karin Boye. I was born in Gothenburg in the year 1900. I am a Swedish writer and poet. I wrote many poems and books. One of my famous books is called “Kallocain”. It is about a future where the government watches everything people do. In the book, I ask questions about freedom and what it means to be yourself. I grew up in a wealthy home and had German as a second language. My grandfather had immigrated to Gothenburg from Germany in the mid nineteenth century. My family and I moved to Stockholm when I was nine years old.
In my poems I write about love, life and how it feels to be different. I was open about being bisexual, which was not easy at the time. I also had problems with my mental health, and I often wrote about my feelings. Even if I was sad sometimes, I wanted to give hope and truth to my words.
I died in 1914, near a town called Alingsås. Many people think I took my own life because I had taken an overdose of sleeping pills. But my poems and books are still here, and many people in Sweden and other countries still read my book and my poems.
My statue is placed in KungsportsAvenyn, it's a perfect place because it is a place with many art, books and culture.
