Statue Narrative
I am Alexandru Ioan Cuza and I was born on March 20, 1820, in Barlad (/ˈbɨr.lad/). I was the ruler of the first unified Romanian State. I wish to speak to you about one of the most important moment of the Romanian history. I have tirelessly worked for the welfare of the Romanian people, striving to modernize our institutions and strengthen our society. I fought for the unification of the Principalities, establishing the foundation of a state where justice and education could flourish. For the first time in history, at the 24th of January a new state emerged: Romania. I have worked to reform the land, to give the peasants dignity and opportunity, and to build schools that would enlighten our youth.
I have striven for a fair judicial system and for administration that serves the people, not merely the powerful. My devotion to the army, the clergy, and civil service reflects my strong belief that a strong nation can only be build on disciplined, educated, and virtuous citizens.
Above all, I have loved my country with all my heart. I have insisted upon unity with Transylvania, as I believed that our strength lies in solidarity among all Romanians. It is only through mutual support, respect for our traditions, and commitment to the common good that our nation can thrive. In everything I did, I was guided by the desire to see a united, prosperous, and free Romania.
